Eye Examination

Regular eye exams are a vital step in maintaining healthy eyes.  At Simpson Optometrists, our comprehensive exams not only assess your vision but also include a variety of tests to evaluate the overall health of your eyes.

Why are eye exams important?

Your vision is central to daily life—whether for work, spending time with loved ones, or enjoying hobbies. Many eye conditions develop without noticeable symptoms in the early stages, which means your eyesight could be at risk without you realising it. Regular eye exams are essential for early detection, allowing for timely intervention and better chances of successful treatment.

What to expect during your eye exam?

At Simpson Optometrists, we strive to provide the highest standard of care through advanced technology and a welcoming environment. As a family-run practice, patient well-being is our priority, and we ensure each visit is personalised and comfortable. Over the years, our dedication to one-on-one service has helped us build strong, lasting relationships with our patients.

Your eye exam will start with a discussion about your health, lifestyle, and any specific concerns. Then, we will proceed with several important tests, including:

  • Visual acuity test: The familiar letter chart to check how well you see.
  • Non-contact tonometer: A painless test to measure the pressure inside your eyes.
  • Visual field test: Evaluates your peripheral and central vision for any abnormalities.
  • Digital retinal photography: Captures detailed images of your retina to assess eye health
  • OCT scanning: This advanced scan offers a detailed view of your retinas for a more in-depth analysis.
Please note, this service is separate and not included in the free eye examination.

How often should you have an eye exam?

For most adults, we recommend an eye exam every two years. However, if you have diabetes, glaucoma, or a family history of glaucoma (especially if you’re over 40), annual exams are advisable. If you notice any changes in your vision or have concerns, you don’t need to wait until your next scheduled check-up—get in touch with us right away.

  • About half of your brain is dedicated to vision and seeing.

  • You see with your brain, not your eyes. Our eyes function like a camera, capturing light and sending data back to the brain.
