Your eyes are AMAZING! Look after them.
Retinal Imaging allows your Optometrists to view the back of your eyes. Retinal imaging is important because it means we can pick up signs of conditions like glaucoma, diabetes, hypertension and age related macular degeneration.
Undergoing this quick procedure can help us save you a lot of problems and even loss of sight in later life. As part of our commitment to provide you with the very highest standard of eye care, we include Retinal imaging complementary in our comprehensive eye examinations.
The Optometrist takes time to show and explain the images taken of the back of your eyes, as we feel this will give you a better understanding of the health of your eyes. The images taken are stored and can be recalled, therefore enabling the optometrist to compare these from one visit to the next, allowing even the most subtle changes to be detected aiding in early diagnosis.
For a more complete and far more in-depth record of the health and condition of you eyes, we would recommend OCT. Similar to an MRI, it scans, measures and provides a detailed 3D digital image of the underlying retina, which is usually hidden. This enables our Optometrists to detect evidence of sight threatening conditions in the deeper structure of the eye including Macular Degeneration / Holes, Diabetic Retinopathy and Glaucoma, all of which could be detected and treated up to 5 Years earlier.
